About UsCJRD is Cincinnati's first junior roller derby team. The organization was founded in 2011 by retired Cincinnati Rollergirls Lauren (Miss Print) Bishop and Kathy (Panterrorize) Kissing, who wanted to bring the competitive, full-contact sport of flat track roller derby to the Cincinnati-area for skaters ages 7 to 17.
Beginning 9/1/22 the team has gone Open Division to accept all genders. Current and former adult skaters serve as coaches. All coaches and support staff are volunteers. Skaters are regularly tested on skating skills and the rules of the game and are placed in one of three established skill levels:
CJRD is a proud member of the Junior Roller Derby Association. Practices & GamesThe practice schedule is divided into three 12-week seasons: fall, winter and spring.
Practices take place most Monday nights from 6:30-8:00pm at The Skatin' Place. Week-long camps for prospective junior derby skaters are held every summer. Games and scrimmages with other junior derby teams from around the region will take place at home and away. |
Ready to Join our Team?If you know a skater who is interested in playing roller derby, please contact us for more information about joining the team!
New skaters will be asked to complete a skating assessment demonstrating their ability to do the following:
- Cross over in the turns - Come to a complete stop - "Fall small" and recover quickly from a fall - Weave between cones - Skate 15 laps around the roller derby track in 3 minutes or less Equipment & SafetySkater safety is the top priority of Cincinnati Junior Roller Derby coaches and support staff. All skaters must wear knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, helmets and mouth guards at all times. New skaters who do not have full gear may rent skates and may be able to borrow pads and helmets from other skaters, but they must bring their own mouth guards.
Although participating in roller skating, roller derby and sports in general can involve risk of injury, CJRD coaches, trainers and support staff strive to reduce this risk with regular skills assessments, equipment checks and careful training. Follow Us |
